Το European Centre-Contemporary Space Athens σε συνεργασία με την Parret Gallery International παρουσιάζουν και σας προσκαλούν στην εικαστική έκθεση με τίτλο: “Two Directions/ One Destination, New works by Athina Vontzolou, Nikolas Bitsis and Stavros Karavasopoulos”. Τα εγκαίνια της έκθεσης θα πραγματοποιηθούν την Παρασκευή 12 Ιουνίου, Μητροπόλεως 74, στη Πλάκα, στις 18.30.

Το 2024, η Parrett Gallery International εγκαινίασε έναν νέο χώρο σύγχρονης τέχνης

στην ακτή του Κόλπου της Φλόριντα, η οποία φημίζεται για τις εκπληκτικές λευκές παραλίες και τα καταγάλανα νερά της και θεωρείται ένας από τους κύριους πολιτιστικούς προορισμούς.

Η γκαλερί μετατρέπει τη Φλόριντα σε ένα κοσμοπολίτικο, καθώς και καλλιτεχνικό

κόμβο, αφού διαθέτει μια ισχυρή σειρά νέων προγραμμάτων σύγχρονης τέχνης. Η γκαλερί έχει ξεκινήσει μια σειρά συνεργασιών με καλλιτέχνες από όλο τον κόσμο, συγγραφείς και ανερχόμενους επιμελητές, και έχει επεκτείνει την εμβέλεια του προγράμματός της πέρα από τα όρια του «λευκού κύβου».

Με αυτόν τον τρόπο, η γκαλερί επιβεβαιώνει τη δέσμευσή της στην τεκμηρίωση, την

αρχειοθέτηση και την ιστοριοποίηση, εκτός από την άμεση υποστήριξη, της καλλιτεχνικής παραγωγής στην περιοχή.

Η γκαλερί είχε την τιμή να γίνει μάρτυρας των τεράστιων μετασχηματισμών που λαμβάνουν χώρα επί του παρόντος στην τοπική καλλιτεχνική σκηνή στις παραθαλάσσιες κοινότητες της βορειοδυτικής Φλόριντα, φέρνοντας μερικούς από τους πιο γνωστούς καλλιτέχνες από την Ευρώπη και τις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες, οι οποίοι εργάζονται με ποικίλα μέσα, οι πρακτικές των οποίων είναι αυστηρά

τεκμηριωμένες, καθοδηγούμενες από ιδέες και αντιπροσωπευτικές της τρέχουσας εποχής. Η γκαλερί απευθύνεται στις πολιτιστικές κοινότητες της Pensacola Beach (Φλόριντα), του Gulf Breeze, της Navarre Beach, του Fort Walton Beach, του Destin και της ευρύτερης περιοχής.

Λίγα λόγια για τους καλλιτέχνες:

Η Αθηνά Βοντζόλου δραστηριοποιείται στο πεδίο της σύγχρονης υφαντικής και του textile art, με βασικό μέσο έκφρασης το rug tufting. Έχοντας σπουδάσει fashion styling και visual merchandising, μεταφέρει στη καλλιτεχνική της πρακτική μια βαθιά κατανόηση της φόρμας, της υλικότητας και της οπτικής αφήγησης.

Ακολουθώντας μια αυτοδίδακτη πορεία στο tufting, τα τελευταία χρόνια εστιάζει στη δημιουργία χειροποίητων έργων, διερευνώντας τη σχέση ανάμεσα στο νήμα, την αφή και τον χώρο. Μέσα από πειραματισμούς με διαφορετικές υφές, πυκνότητες και χρωματικές αντιθέσεις, αναζητά τρόπους ώστε το ύφασμα να λειτουργεί όχι μόνο ως διακοσμητικό στοιχείο αλλά ως ζωντανό εικαστικό μέσο.

Το έργο της κινείται ανάμεσα στη μόδα, το design και τη σύγχρονη τέχνη, αντλώντας έμπνευση από την υλικότητα της καθημερινότητας και τη συναισθηματική δύναμη της αφής. Μέσα από τη διαδικασία του tufting, δημιουργεί οργανικές συνθέσεις που ισορροπούν ανάμεσα στο γλυπτικό αντικείμενο και το textile installation.

Ο Νικόλας Μπίτσης είναι εικαστικός καλλιτέχνης και απόφοιτος της Ανώτατης Σχολής Καλών Τεχνών της Αθήνας. Μεγαλωμένος σε ένα περιβάλλον με έντονες καλλιτεχνικές επιρροές, έχοντας ως σημαντικό σημείο αναφοράς τη γιαγιά του που δραστηριοποιείται στη ζωγραφική, ήρθε σε επαφή με την τέχνη από πολύ μικρή ηλικία. Από παιδί ζωγράφιζε ασταμάτητα, αναζητώντας τρόπους να μεταφέρει εικόνες, χαρακτήρες και συναισθήματα σε κάθε διαθέσιμη επιφάνεια.

Στην εφηβεία στράφηκε στη street και graffiti κουλτούρα, μέσα από την οποία ανέπτυξε μια πιο αυθόρμητη και δυναμική εικαστική έκφραση, επηρεασμένη από τον αστικό χώρο και την ένταση της δημόσιας εικόνας. Παράλληλα δραστηριοποιείται στον χώρο του tattoo, ενώ τα τελευταία χρόνια εστιάζει ιδιαίτερα στο rug tufting, επιχειρώντας να ενώσει την υφαντική με στοιχεία της street αισθητικής και του graffiti. Τα έργα του κινούνται ανάμεσα στην urban κουλτούρα και το textile art, συνδυάζοντας έντονα χρώματα, υφές και χειροποίητες φόρμες με σύγχρονη εικαστική προσέγγιση.

Ο Σταύρος Καραβασοπούλος είναι φοιτητής του τέταρτου έτους στη Σχολή Καλών Τεχνών της Αθήνας. Εισήχθη με την πρώτη του προσπάθεια στις εισαγωγικές εξετάσεις, καταλαμβάνοντας τη 12η θέση. Έχει συμμετάσχει σε εκπαιδευτικό πρόγραμμα στο Εθνικό Μουσείο Σύγχρονης Τέχνης (ΕΜΣΤ) στο πλαίσιο του προγράμματος «Daysign – Από την οπτική γωνία του ζώου», που πραγματοποιήθηκε τον Αύγουστο στην Αθήνα.

Έχει πραγματοποιήσει περίπου τέσσερις παραστάσεις σε καλλιτεχνικά και εκπαιδευτικά πλαίσια. Η πρακτική του επικεντρώνεται στη ζωγραφική, χρησιμοποιώντας λαδομπογιές, ακρυλικά και μαρκαδόρους.

Κατά την διάρκεια των εγκαινίων  οι επισκέπτες εκτός από την έκθεση θα μπορούν να απολαύσουν όλες τις  γεύσεις μπίρας της εταιρείας Alea Brewing Co.

Η έκθεση θα διαρκέσει από τις 12 Ιουνίου έως και τις  20 Ιουνίου, με ελεύθερη είσοδο για το κοινό.

The European Centre–Contemporary Space Athens, in collaboration with Parret Gallery International, present and invite you to the exhibition “Two Directions / One Destination: New Works by Athina Vontzolou, Nikolas Bitsis and Stavros Karavasopoulos.” The opening will take place on Friday, 12 June, at Mitropoleos 74, Plaka, at 18:30.

In 2024, Parrett Gallery International launched a new contemporary art space in Florida’s Gulf Coast known for its stunningly white beaches and sparkling blue waters and celebrated as one of Florida’s main cultural and get away destinations on the Gulf of Mexico.

The gallery reflects Florida’s position as a cosmopolitan—as well as artistic—entrepôt, as it boasts of a strong parallel of new contemporary art programs.

The gallery has initiated a series of collaborations, working with external artists, writers, and emergent curators and extended the reach of its program beyond the confines of the white cube. In this way, the gallery affirms its commitment to documenting, archiving and historicizing—in addition to direct support—of artistic production in the region.

The gallery has had the privilege of bearing witness to the tremendous transformations that currently taking place on the regional art scene in Florida’s northwest seaside communities, bringing some of the world’s best-known artists from Europe and the United States, working across diverse media, whose practices are rigorously researched, idea-led, and representative of the current moment.

The gallery serves the cultural communities of Florida’s Pensacola Beach, Gulf Breeze,Navarre Beach, Fort Walton Beach, Destin and beyond.

The exhibition entitled “Two Directions/ One Destination” is organized by Parrett Gallery International and presented at The European Centre-Contemporary Space Athens, Greece.

About the artists:

Athina Vontzolou works in the field of contemporary weaving and textile art, with rug tufting as her primary medium of expression. Having studied fashion styling and visual merchandising, she brings to her artistic practice a deep understanding of form, materiality, and visual storytelling.

Having taught herself tufting, in recent years she has focused on creating handmade works, exploring the relationship between thread, touch, and space. Through experimentation with different textures, densities, and color contrasts, she seeks ways for fabric to function not only as a decorative element but as a living visual medium.

Her work straddles the realms of fashion, design, and contemporary art, drawing inspiration from the materiality of everyday life and the emotional power of touch. Through the process of tufting, she creates organic compositions that balance between the sculptural object and the textile installation.

Nikolas Bitsis is a visual artist and a graduate of the Athens School of Fine Arts. Raised in an environment with strong artistic influences, with his grandmother, a painter, serving as a significant role model, he was exposed to art from a very young age.

As a child, he painted incessantly, seeking ways to convey images, characters, and emotions on every available surface.

As a teenager, he turned to street and graffiti culture, through which he developed a more spontaneous and dynamic visual expression, influenced by the urban environment and the intensity of the public image. At the same time, he is active in the tattoo scene, while in recent years he has focused particularly on rug tufting, attempting to combine weaving with elements of street aesthetics and graffiti. His works straddle the line between urban culture and textile art, combining bold colors, textures, and handmade forms with a contemporary artistic approach.

Stavros Karavasopoulos is a fourth-year student at the Athens School of Fine Arts. He was admitted on his first attempt at the entrance examinations, ranking 12th. He has participated in an educational program at the National Museum of Contemporary Art (EMST) as part of the program “Daysign – From the Animal’s Perspective,” held in August in Athens. He has realized approximately four performances within artistic and educational contexts. His practice focuses on painting, using oil paints, acrylics, and markers.

During the opening reception, visitors will be able to enjoy the full range of beers from Alea Brewing Co. The exhibition will run from 12 June to 20 June, with free admission to the public.
